My Boyfriend and I went to Canada more than a month ago. It was quite an adventure, to say the least; but I know that we can look back at this trip and appreciate everything. Both the good and Bad.
So first things first, both my boyfriend and I have never been on an International Flight; so this was a first for both of us. I am really proud of how we handled problems and tough situations; some parts were scary but I felt safe having my partner with me.
Day 1: Getting to Vancouver Canada
Our first day didn’t start off so great but I think it ended pretty well.
First things first, we had to get to the Las Vegas Airport. My boyfriend lives a couple of hours away from me, so he had a very late night/early morning to come pick me up. Then we had to go to Las Vegas Airport which was a couple more hours……so much fun.
We got to the Airport 3 hours before our flight. Which gave us plenty of time to get our tickets, go through customs, and find our gate.
Tip Warning
Quick tip: don’t wear cute belts on your dress that have a metal part to them.
Yeah…… I forgot I had the belt on and got stopped, it took 10 minutes to get a female to search me. And quite honestly it stressed me out because they didn’t tell me what was going on; all they said was to wait there and someone was coming. Like how ominous does that freaking sound?! Did I accidentally have something dangerous on me? Was I being kicked out? I had no Idea.
Once we got through we had time to mess around, so we walked for a little both he and I felt sick to our stomachs (We both have motion sickness and the drive took a toll on us) so we decided we would eat something when we got to Canada. We played some Mario Cart, and whether I like to admit or not he was really good and kept beating me.
Landing In Canada!
Finally, the time came to board the plane, we got on and my boyfriend, being the gentleman he is, let me have the window seat. Honestly, I don’t know how I got so lucky to have him as my boyfriend, he could do so much better but chose me (Sorry random comment, but I know he’ll read this later lol). When we took off, I got motion sick real fast which was odd because I normally do good on planes…… but not this time! Boy that hurt my head, mind AND body, ugh.
First thing I noticed when we landed was how green Canada was! It was gorgeous, where I live now there’s not many trees or green in general. So I was awestruck, I missed trees and fields of green. We were both very excited and I was kinda nervous but I had my boyfriend with me so I felt pretty safe and comfortable
But Like most adventures, there will always be bumps on the way. How we deal with them determines how well the trip will go, if we see mostly everything in negativity, we will look back at the trip and think of the overall trip to have been bad even though there are less bad moments than good. Sometimes it’s hard to see the positive and good because the bad seems more significant but those are the times when you have to have a more positive outlook and attitude.
Don’t let negativity win
There were a lot of uncertainties and confusion happening while we were in Canada, but we managed things quite well, we never gave up which is the most important part. Once you give up and stop coming up with different solutions, negativity starts winning…..big time. Even though it seemed like nothing was going right, I tried to stay optimistic and show my boyfriend the brighter side to things even when he couldn’t see it sometimes.
It’s okay that everything isn’t going perfect but do not despise and spiral down a negative road because it’s okay to be human, us humans are not perfect and make mistakes.
The Car….
We got off and were looking for where we were supposed to get our rental car. We ended up taking the Canadian skyline to a different station and then had to call them. The kicker is that we needed to buy a skyline ticket so that was fun figuring out the machines. When we tried to call them they didn’t answer the first time, so we tried one more time. They said they would send someone to pick us up and take us to the car rental place; which seemed odd.
My partner said that something felt off and that this didn’t feel right so we were on edge then the guy showed up and it was a white minivan! You know the stories about white vans, they didn’t get those rumors for no reason; so I was immensely like no, there’s no way. We decided to cancel but then the app wouldn’t actually let us cancel which was weird; the whole thing seemed off so I’m really glad we didn’t go through that. We ended up going all the way back to the airport and got an Uber to the Hotel.
Well…… I wish I could say that’s where the problems stopped, we actually went to the wrong Hotel lol. We waited for our Uber to leave and be out of eye distance before getting another Uber to the right Hotel; we were hoping that it wouldn’t give us the same Uber because imagine the embarrassment it would cause. Luckily we got an Uber and were able to get to the right hotel. Once there we just needed to pick up our keys and head to our room.
Finally at the Hotel
We were on the top floor, the 16th floor, and had a pretty good view of Vancouver (Was so freaking cool!). Our room was pretty nice, although it didn’t have a microwave which we only learned later, it was still really nice. Even though we were in our Hotel room there was always something to stress about, like the fact that we were relying heavily on having our own car to drive around with but that fell through.
The worst part we were only staying in Vancouver for one night and were heading to Whistler the next day; so we needed to find the means to travel without costing an arm and a leg. I knew it was a stressful situation but tried to remain calm…..well my partner took it upon himself to try to find a solution and to stress about it. I think he forgets sometimes that he’s not alone and it’s okay for plans to go wrong, yeah it sucks at the time but in the end, it is more memorable this way.
Even though it seemed like things were getting worse, my boyfriend came and saved the day. He managed to find a bus shuttle that went was a round trip from Vancouver to Whistler for about $60. Once we had everything sorted out the best they could be, he was able to calm down and finally relax.
Mission Complete: Surviving the first day
That’s when both me and my partner got hungry so we decided to get some food. We originally were going to eat in the Hotel diner but decided against it; that’s when I saw a dominos right across the street from us. My boyfriend LOVES pizza…..more than me……so it was an immediate yes to that lol.
Once we ate and were able to relax in our room, the tension of a bad day went away. The air was calm and it seemed like we could put the bad that happened that day away. We just watched shows and talked until we fell asleep. Thus our first day in Vancouver Canada ended.
